Today we noticed that there was tunnels dug all round our ecosystem. Turns out the mouse had dug a series of tunnels each connecting to the other. The Salamander is nowhere to be seen, burrowed beneath the dirt. We also put a worm inside the bio-bubble the help with the decomposing of dead organisms. We a timer on the light hanging above the ecosystem so that it would come off and on at certain times because photosynthesis has a light and dark cycle. It also seems that either the water from the pond is evaporating or it is being drank. We planted more beans today, so that hopefully we will get more producers growing.

Interesting. What exactly is the purpose of the light and dark cycles of photosynthesis? Why are they integral to the development of a successful biome?

In the light cycle occurs in the thylakoid membranes in the chloroplast, it uses light energy to synthesize ATP and NADPH. The Dark Cycle or the Calvin Cycle uses the NADPH to release three carbon sugars that will later form sucrose or starch. When these stages have been complete the plant releases oxygen and makes gluclose. Without these processes our living organisms would not be living for long, because all living organisms need oxygen to survive.
